About Our Association

JOSA was founded in 1977 under the chairmanship of John Mugo one of the first students who was also the first to join a secondary school ( Thika High School) in the mid-sixties. After his secondary school, he worked in the office of the president in Nairobi. This made him very aware of the advantages of having such an association. Through him many of those who performed well in the final primary examination but could not afford school fees get sponsorship through his connections. The attachment to former students made candidates work hard.

In 1985 the chairmanship was handed to Joshua Ouma who was the second old student to join the university from Lenana High School after Josiah Mwololo who got a scholarship to Russia after performing so well in Alliance High school. The two first chairmen tried in getting employment for some students in the civil service.

Stanley Mathenge became the third chairman followed by Dr. Agnes Mithamo. For some time our activities became stagnant despite many trials to revive them. Through the efforts of some members, it succeeded though it was very hectic. Late Stanley Mathenge became the interim Chairman assisted by Barack Ounga. Secretary Boniface Odenyo. Treasurer Flora Bartera. Unfortunately, Stanley Mathenge passed on before any elections were held and Barack Ounga became the interim Chairman. These officials arranged for a visit and blessings and to say Thank you of our heroes who are our former teachers who they invited at the first headmaster’s home Mr. Peter Myatu. The teachers were so happy to see the pupils they taught many years ago coming to say thank you. Something like this had never happened. Later we visited the homes of some of our first teachers and members of staff. Unfortunately, three of our teachers died but many were happy we had bonded before they passed on

The first officials of JOSA were Chairman – John Mugo office of the President. Secretary – Stephen Mbuthia Hamilton and Mathews Advocates. Treasurer – John Wambua -Barclay’s Bank.
